The Sacrifice Bunt
The one constant in baseball is that each team will have 27 outs to work with before the game is over. In high school and lower levels the number of outs may change, but that is the only real finite part of the game of baseball. The bunting game should be an important part of every team’s offense, because it is relatively easy to execute and the bunting game can change the course of any game, as it will move up a runner into scoring position. It’s surprising how many teams choose not to bunt on offense and equally as surprising at how many teams can’t properly defend the bunt. This skill gives a chance for the offensive team to score runs in many ways. Since our offensive goal is to score one run per inning, we may use the bunt often.
