With proper rest, weightlifting for pitchers isn't going to hurt your son, but in some areas, it won't help either. Without proper rest between sessions, pitcher or not, you will break down. I typically would get the most sore the 2nd day after lifting, not the 1st. If I know I'm pitching on that day, I try to plan my workouts according to my pitching schedule. There is nothing wrong with weights and players getting stronger...only if you know that having larger pectorals and labrums does very little to make pitchers gain more velocity.
